Wingo APK: check the file before you install

This site hosts no Wingo file. If one reached you, here is what the check says when a file arrives with nothing to compare it against.

Tool · runs in your browserNothing is uploaded

The file stays on your device. It is read by your browser to work out the fingerprint and is never uploaded.

Spaces, colons and capital letters are fine.

Worked example, not your file. A tiny made-up file stands in for an app file here, so you can see what the result looks like. Choose your own file above and this is replaced.

Nothing to comparewhat the checker says about the example file wingo-example.apk
64characters in a SHA-256 fingerprint (0–9 and a–f)
47 bytessize of the example file (real app files are millions of bytes)
50 4b 03 04first four bytes in hex: how every Android app file begins

wingo-example.apk is 47 bytes here (a real app file is millions of bytes, but the method is the same). No publisher printed a fingerprint for it, so there is nothing to hold it against. The checker can show the file’s fingerprint, but the file stays unchecked.

This site does not host a Wingo APK and cannot say which file, if any, is the right one. What it can show is how to check a file you were given. Most files from chats come with no fingerprint to compare against, and the worked example on this page shows what the checker says when no printed value comes with the file.

In the example, wingo-example.apk is 47 bytes long and starts with 50 4b 03 04, but no fingerprint came with it, so the result is Nothing to compare. That is the usual case for a file from a chat: its fingerprint can be worked out, but no printed value exists to hold it against.

The file stays on your phone. It is read in your browser to work out the fingerprint and is never uploaded.

Common questions

Is there one Wingo APK I should use?

We cannot say. The game is described as part of several platforms’ lists, and a file named after it can be a copy of anything. This site hosts no Wingo file, so check any file you have been given before you install.

What do I do with a file that came without a fingerprint?

Treat it as unchecked. You can work out its fingerprint, but there is nothing to hold it against. Ask the publisher for a SHA-256 value, find another route such as a web page, or leave the file alone.

Can a changed file look exactly like the right one?

Yes. A copy can have the same name, size and icon and still hold different code. Changing even one byte gives a completely different fingerprint, which is why the fingerprint is the check and the look of the file is not.

What does a matching fingerprint prove?

Only that your file is identical to the one the fingerprint was printed for. It says nothing about who made it, what the app does once it runs, or whether it is the newest version.

Where should the publisher’s fingerprint come from?

From a second place, not the page or chat that gave you the file. If one source hands you both, whoever swapped the file could have swapped the number too, and a match shows only that the download arrived whole.
